The Cavendish School

New to the Area?

If you are planning a move to Central or North London, please get in touch with us to enquire about availability for your daughter or daughters. We sometimes have spaces in the school and would be happy to talk to you about your requirements. Relocating can be complex, and we understand that making sure your children are happy in their new school will help ensure a smooth transition for the whole family.

The Cavendish School is in the heart of London, just minutes from The City as we’re a stone’s throw from Camden Town tube. Yet we have green spaces such as Regent’s Park and Hampstead Heath on our doorstep. There are many beautiful and desirable residential areas within striking distance of our school. We have families living in Primrose Hill, Hampstead, Islington, Dartmouth Park, Highgate, Marylebone, St John’s Wood, Maida Vale, Bloomsbury and The City.  Easily accessible by public transport, we also operate a school bus service to and from Islington.

"We are so lucky that our girls have all this space to run around, and the classrooms are big and airy as well."

Visiting the School

We’d love to welcome you to The Cavendish School. We hold several Open Morning Tours each term and are more than happy to give you a private tour at other times to suit your plans.

Next Steps

If your daughter is young and would be joining in Nursery or Reception (3+ or 4+) then, if we have a place available, we can offer without assessment immediately after you register her with a simple form and £100 fee.

For older pupils, while we are not academically selective and there are no entrance exams, we ask for an informal Taster Day to ensure a good fit on both sides. This can be done during term time if you are in London prior to your move, or soon after your arrival with a view to an immediate start.  Please contact us to discuss if you have any questions about this, or see our Admissions section for more details.

Settling In

The academic year starts in early September; however, we are used to pupils joining us at other times to fit in with individual circumstances as families relocate. Pastoral care ensuring the wellbeing of each individual is at the centre of what we do at The Cavendish School. Our teaching staff are very experienced in settling new pupils, whether they have come from home, from nearby schools and nurseries, or from halfway around the globe. Ours is a vibrant, multi-national community in the heart of London where everyone is made to feel at home.

English as an Additional Language

The Cavendish School welcomes children for whom English is an additional language. Our school is a very language-rich environment, and we find that pupils for whom English is an additional language very soon catch up.  Some of our younger pupils arrive with little or no English and quickly master it.  With older joiners, we do ask that they are sufficiently fluent in English to be able to properly access the curriculum, enjoy learning and comfortably socialise with their peers. Amongst our staff we are also fortunate to have speakers of a number of languages who are always happy to help if the need arises.

Friends of Cavendish (FOC - Parents' Association)

Our family ethos extends beyond the pupils, and our very active parents’ association welcomes the families of new joiners to our warm and caring school community. The FOC organises social events and fundraisers for local charities, provides volunteers for the library, second-hand uniform and much more. As new parents to the area you will find the FOC a supportive group of people who can help you to make friends and soon feel at home.
