The Cavendish School

Pupils in Nursery and Reception begin the school reading scheme at home, when they are ready to do so.  In Year 1, regular daily reading continues and progresses to include small manageable amounts of mathematics and other tasks.  It is important that parents and teachers liaise to ensure the quantity and content of homework undertaken is right for each child.  Homework increases gradually with age and ability.

We believe homework is important to:

  • consolidate class work
  • encourage independent working
  • allow parents and carers to see their children’s work and working

"Homework is creative and interesting."

"Our daughter gets on with her homework and loves to show me what she has been doing."
